Nutio
Service: Mobile appsA mobile app that turns a photo of your meal into a nutrition breakdown, inside a social feed.

The problem
Food-sharing apps have no nutrition intelligence, and nutrition trackers don't recognise most world cuisines and need manual logging. People had to choose between sharing meals and understanding them.
The solution
Nutio combines meal sharing with AI nutrition analysis. Users snap a photo, Nutio identifies the dishes and ingredients and returns a nutrition breakdown, all inside a feed built for discovery.
Results
- Published on Google Play and live at nutio.app
- Complete MVP: photo capture, AI nutrition analysis, social feed and profiles
- Architecture ready for multi-language expansion

Technical details
What I did
- Built the React Native mobile app with TypeScript, Redux Toolkit and RTK Query
- Designed the NestJS backend with PostgreSQL, TypeORM and secure two-token authentication
- Integrated the LogMeal API for food recognition and nutrition analysis
- Set up Cloudflare R2 image storage to keep hosting costs low
- Built role-based access for users, moderators and admins
- Deployed on a VPS with nginx, TLS and automated GitHub Actions releases
- Took the app through Google Play review and publication
- Led a team of 3 developers as technical lead
Challenges and solutions
Reliable AI results without ground truth
The AI's confidence scores were relative weights, not percentages. I built a fallback that only rejects non-food images, turns raw scores into clear labels and enforces per-user quotas on a shared API budget.
A feed that helps people discover
Built a single feed with time-decayed engagement scoring, spacing between posts from the same user, and a boost for matching dietary preferences, so discovery works beyond who you follow.
Google Play publication for a health app
Worked through repeated rejections by declaring the right health category, fixing app bundle versioning and adding the required compliance pages, then published the app.
